Yuen Yeung Milk tea in Hong Kong

What is Yeun Yeung Milk Tea?

Yeun Yeung, also known as Yuan Yang, Ying Yong, Ying Yeung, or Kopi Teh (in Malaysian) is an original Cantonese drink that can often be ordered in Hong Kong style tea restaurants (cha chaan teng), Dai Pai Dong (a type of open-air food stall), in the streets, bakeries...

Yuen Yeung consists of two different caffeine drinks: Hong Kong-style milk tea (or “Silk Stocking” milk tea), and plain coffee. A true Yuen Yeung should give that smooth, creamy, silky texture and bold flavours of tea, with the aroma of coffee subtly filling the customer’s olfactory senses. They can be served hot or cold, but in most tea restaurants, an additional charge from $1-4 would be required. Since not everyone enjoys caffeine, there is a children's version of Yuen Yeung along with the original version, which is much sweeter, free of caffeine, and milkier- the children’s Yuen Yeung has a balanced mixture of Ovaltine and Horlicks in milk or water (both Ovaltine and Horlicks is made from malt powders that dissolve and create great drinks).
